Matthieu Arseneau has been an economist at National Bank since 2005 and joined the Economy Group and Strategy in 2009. As Deputy Chief Economist, he is responsible for the drafting of various economic and financial market documents and contributes to the development of forecasts. He currently sits on the Public Policy Committee of the Association of Quebec and on the CIRANO Board of Directors. Before joining the Economics and Strategy team, Mr. Arseneau worked in risk management at National Bank where he was responsible for analyzing the different industries in Canada and developing quantitative tools for modeling risks. Previously, he worked as the Research Chair in Taxation and Public Finance at the Université de Sherbrooke where he acquired expertise in the impact of changes in demographics on the economy and public finances. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the Université de Montréal and a master's degree in economics from the Université du Québec à Montréal.
